ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Madonna University opened the new year in record-breaking fashion at the Wolverine Invitational on Saturday at the University of Michigan, as the Crusaders' men's and women's track and field programs combined for multiple school records, a national record and an NAIA qualifying mark in a strong early-season showing.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Headlining the day, Charity Jones delivered a historic performance in the women's 300-meter dash. Jones broke her own Madonna school record and became the fastest 300-meter runner in NAIA history, stopping the clock in 38.98 seconds. The performance not only reset the Crusaders' record book but also established a new all-time national mark, underscoring Jones' status as one of the top sprinters in the NAIA.

On the men's side, middle-distance standout Colin Bastuba added to the record haul with a standout run in the 600 meters. Bastuba posted a time of 1:20.48 to set a new Madonna school record in the event. His effort also met the NAIA B standard, positioning him for postseason consideration and signaling strong early-season form for the Crusaders' middle-distance group.
Madonna's depth showed in the women's 600 meters, where Lauren Hamilton and Tyfane Martins both placed inside the top 10 of a competitive field. Hamilton crossed in eighth and Martins followed in ninth, giving the Crusaders back-to-back finishes and valuable experience against NCAA Division I competition in their season-opening meet.

The Crusaders also recorded solid results in the men's mile run. Distance runners Zakari Mekideche and Nauofel Moussaoui finished ninth and 10th, respectively, as Madonna placed two athletes inside the top 10. Their performances added balance to a lineup that already featured national-caliber results in the sprints and middle distances.

With a national record, multiple school standards and an NAIA qualifying mark secured at the Wolverine Invitational, Madonna established early momentum for the indoor campaign. The Crusaders are scheduled to build on their strong start in upcoming meets as athletes continue to chase additional qualifying marks and climb both the conference and national performance lists.
