SAGINAW, Mich. - The Madonna University track and field team opened their 2023-24 season at the SVSU Holiday Open on Friday night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

For the men, Mehdi Hamoud won the mile run with an NAIA A Standard and school record time of 4:14.89.. On the field, Albion College transfer Mason Darden placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 18.43 meters (NAIA A Standard), while Alex Hunt was sixth with a toss of 17.61 meters (NAIA A Standard). Defending NAIA Indoor National Champion DeVeyon Blacknell won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.40 seconds (NAIA A Standard). 

On the women's side, Charity Jones won the 200-meter dash with a school record time of 24.51 (NAIA A Standard). Chana Staples broke her own school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.53 meters.
