NOTRE DAME, Ind.-- The Madonna University Men's and Women's Golf teams opened the 2021 fall campaign with 4th and 10th-place performances at the Saints Classic on Monday and Tuesday at the Warren Golf Course. 

Kristen Szabelski finished 13th overall with a +23 over 71 par on the 5822 yard course for a two day total of 165 (81-84) just ahead of Kayla Gerhardt in a tie for 16th with 169 (82-87). Gabriella Scapone was third on the Crusaders' roster tied for 19th with 170 (86-84) and McKenzie Chaisson finished tied for 28th in 184 (92-92). Rounding out the meet for Madonna was Madison Brigance in 38th with 213 (117-96). 

A fourth place finish to start the year by the Crusaders puts them with a score of 688 (341-347) over the two day event. Indiana Wesleyan University won the women's meet with a score of 616 (311-305) while University of Northwestern Ohio was second with 631 (313-318) and Bethel University (Ind.) was third in 646 (332-314). 

For the men, Harrison Bowman carded a 152 (79-73) over the two day tournament to lead the Crusaders going +10 over 72 par to tie for 16th place. Following him was Andrew Volk tying for 37th with a 160 (79-81) ahead of Gabe Martin who tied for 44th in 163 (78-85). Finishing off the Crusaders lineup was Ryan Langan and John Doyle, who each tied for 55th and 58th with scores of 167 (82-85) and 169 (84-85), respectively. 

The Crusaders finished 10th out of 11 teams in the event scoring 642 (318-324). Missouri Valley University won the meet with a team score of 587 (291-296) while Roosevelt University (Ill.) finished second in 594 (297-297) and Spring Arbor University (Mich.) finished third in 602 (300-302). 

UP NEXT

The men will be competing on Friday, September 3 and Saturday, September 4 at the Bedford Valley Golf Club for the Lou Collins Memorial Tournament hosted by Olivet College (Mich.).
