SYLVANIA, Ohio – Sarah Carlson (SR/Woodhaven, Mich.) and Jordyn Shepler(SR/Livonia, Mich.) each collected a program record five draw controls as the Madonna University women's lacrosse team posted double-digit draw controls and won the stat for the first time this season in a 19-4 loss to Lourdes at Wildcat Stadium on Monday night.
The Crusaders (0-14, 0-12 WHAC) attempted 16 shots in the loss with 11 on frame while converting four clears, two free position attempts and collecting eight groundballs.
Madonna fell behind early, 3-0, before Emily Johnson (SR/Grandville, Mich.) converted the first of her two first-half free position goals. Carlson also found the net in the first half before adding her second tally with 9:13 left in the game. The Gray Wolves (5-9, 4-7 WHAC) scored 14 goals in the first half and added five more in the second.
Johnson also won four draw controls, had a groundball and caused a turnover in the contest while Katie Larabell (SO/Novi, Mich.) led the team with three groundballs. Shepler had a stellar defensive game as she added a groundball and three caused turnovers to her draw controls.
The Blue and Gold wrap up the road portion of their inaugural season on Wednesday, Apr. 19 as they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana to face No. 4 Indiana Tech at 5 p.m. Live stats and video of the contest will be available via the Indiana Tech Sports Network at www.madonnacrusaders.com/live.
