JOHNSON NETS FIVE AS @MUCRUSADERSWLAX FALLS TO SAINTS

LIVONIA, Mich. –Emily Johnson (SR/Grandville, Mich.) continued to play a star role for the Madonna University women's lacrosse team as she scored five goals in a 16-7 loss to Siena Heights at the Madonna Athletics Complex on Wednesday.

It is the fourth time this season Johnson has scored multiple goals and second straight. The senior has now scored in four consecutive contests for the Crusaders (0-12, 0-10 WHAC). Also, for the second time in as many games, Johnson scored the first goal of the contest, converting on a free position attempt at the 23:34 mark.

Five straight goals by the Saints made it 5-1 before Johnson scored her 16th and 17th goals of the season. The first came at the 13:56 mark as she won the draw control, sprinted down the field and scored. The second, two minutes later, came after she picked up a groundball in the offensive end and beat the keeper to cut the deficit to two, 5-3.

After the visitors added three more, Briana Warner (FR/Comstock Park, Mich.) found Katie Larabell (SO/Novi, Mich.) for the Crusaders fourth tally. Johnson began the second half the way she did the first, scoring from in front of the net. Her fifth goal of the game was the most impressive as goalkeeper Stephanie Mackley (SR/Livonia, Mich.) launched a pass three-quarters of the way down field to Johnson who beat the Saints defense and the goalie for the score.

Katherine Buchanan (FR/Fenton, Mich.) netted the final tally of the game with 5:35 to play as she converted a free position shot for her second goal of the season.

The Crusaders attempted 22 shots with 16 on goal, won eight draw controls, had 35 groundballs and converted 16 clears.

Mackley finished with 14 saves while Johnson led the team with 11 shots, eight on frame. Buchanan, Mackley and Samantha Schwartz (FR/Oxford, Mich.) each corralled five groundballs while Victoria Guardiola (FR/Lansing, Mich.) forced a team-best two caused turnovers.

Madonna wraps up its three-game homestand on Saturday, Apr. 15 against No. 3 Lawrence Technical University at 1:30 p.m. Live video and stats coverage will be available on the Madonna Athletics Network at madonnacrusaders.com/live.
