JOHNSON, @MUCRUSADERSWLAX SCORE FIRST IN LOSS TO LOURDES

LIVONIA, Mich. – Emily Johnson (SR/Grandville, Mich.) got the Madonna University women's lacrosse team off to a promising start, but the undermanned Crusaders ultimately fell to Lourdes University 21-4 at the Madonna Athletics Complex on Monday night.

Johnson won the opening draw control, sprinted down the field and scored the game's first goal 15 seconds into play. It was a great start for the Blue and Gold, who were playing a woman down, but the Gray Wolves scored the next eight goals for an 8-1 lead.

A pair of goals, one a free position shot, from Katie Larabell (SO/Novi, Mich.) cut the deficit to six, but Lourdes scored the final six goals of the first half for a 14-3 lead.

Johnson scored her final goal with 26:32 left to play before the Gray Wolves added five more tallies for the final margin.

The Crusaders attempted 12 shots, won nine draw controls and had 21 groundballs to the visitors 20. Madonna finished 2-for-5 on free-position shots while Lourdes went 5-for-13.

Larabell and Johnson each scored two goals and collected four groundballs. Briana Warner (FR/Comstock Park, Mich.) also corralled four groundballs and caused three turnovers. Stephanie Mackley (SR/Livonia, Mich.) made 11 saves on 40 shots with 32 on frame.

The Crusaders will be back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 12 as 10th-ranked Siena Heights visits the Madonna Athletics Complex at 5 p.m. Live coverage of the game will be available via the Madonna Athletics Network at madonnacrusaders.com/live.
