LIVONIA, Mich.-- The Madonna University Athletics community is saddened by the passing of former volleyball student-athlete Kaitlyn "Katie" Breault, who passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2026 at the age of 31.
A member of the Crusader volleyball program from 2013-16, Breault left a lasting mark on Madonna Athletics through her accomplishments on the court, dedication in the classroom, and impact on those around her. Throughout her four-year career, she established herself as one of the program's premier student-athletes and helped elevate the Crusaders' success within the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and at the National level.
Breault made an immediate impact during her freshman season, earning WHAC All-Freshman Team honors in 2013. She followed with WHAC All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition in 2014 before putting together a remarkable junior campaign in 2015. That season, Breault was named to the All-WHAC First Team and earned NAIA All-America Honorable Mention and AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors, cementing her place among the top players in the conference and the nation.
Her excellence extended beyond competition. In 2016, Breault was recognized as a WHAC Academic All-Conference selection, exemplifying the commitment to academic and athletic achievement that defines Madonna University's student-athletes.
"Katie represented everything we hope for in a Crusader student-athlete," said Madonna Athletic Director Noel Emenhiser. "She competed with passion, carried herself with class, and made a positive impact on her teammates, coaches, and the entire Madonna community. Her legacy within our volleyball program will not be forgotten."
"Katie was an imposing figure on the court, but more importantly, she was a woman of quiet confidence who competed with grit, determination, and courage." said former Madonna Volleyball Coaches Jerry Abraham and Tim DeBeliso. "And off the court, her laugh was infectious and her voice so powerful. When Katie spoke you listened. Katie is now wrapped in God's loving arms, free from pain and at peace. Rest in peace, my young friend. You are loved and will be missed."
Breault's contributions to Madonna Volleyball went far beyond awards and accolades. She was a valued teammate, a respected competitor, and a proud representative of the University. The relationships she built and the memories she created during her time in Livonia continue to resonate with those who knew her.
Per the family, cremation has already taken place, with a private remembrance to take place in the future.Â
If so desired, donations to Diabetes Canada would be appreciated by the family.Â
The entire Madonna Athletics family extends its deepest condolences to Katie's family, friends, former teammates, coaches, and loved ones during this difficult time.
