LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University Athletic Department is thrilled to announce the launch of esports as its 21st varsity program, set to debut in the fall of 2025.

"We're excited to bring the world of esports to Madonna University Athletics," said Noel Emenhiser, Madonna's Director of Athletics. "This is a great opportunity to expand our athletic offerings and foster transformation and relationships that help develop young people. By aligning this program with our growing cybersecurity and computer science academic offerings, we believe esports is a timely addition to our thriving athletic department."

Esports, now recognized as a sanctioned varsity sport, brings the competitive world of organized video gaming to Madonna University. The program will provide student-athletes with opportunities to develop leadership skills, foster teamwork, and represent the university in a rapidly growing industry. The co-ed team will join 12 other institutions in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) currently sponsoring esports.

To lay a strong foundation for the program, Madonna University has launched a nationwide search for its inaugural esports head coach. The ideal candidate will be tasked with building a competitive team, recruiting talented student-athletes, and developing a program that upholds the University's values of excellence and community.

Stay tuned for updates as we prepare to welcome our first esports team and head coach in 2025
