Crusaders Sweep Regular Season Series Against Warriors

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna University men's basketball program was back in action on Saturday afternoon in a clash between two of the top three teams in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). The Crusaders were able to secure the 83-79 victory, winning twelve of their last thirteen games. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Both teams came out scorching hot to start this match up, with the Crusaders leading 15-12 at the first media timeout. Coming out of that timeout, Madonna would increase their lead by going on an 8-0 to go up 23-12. After trading a couple of baskets, the Warriors showed why they are the hottest team in the WHAC right now as they finished the half 15-3 run and Madonna was trailing 44-40 at the break. 

Coming out of the half, it was more of the same, trading baskets back and forth. Crusader's leading scorer Brendan Young was able to get a floater in the lane to go with 14:22 left to tie the game up. The ensuing possession Devin Dunn found Sho-Ron Graham for a three in the right corner and the Crusaders had the 54-51, it was Madonna's first lead since 37-36 with 3:35 to go in the first half. The Warriors would claim the lead right back and Madonna was down four with 6:49 left. The Crusaders once again, continued to mount a comeback and would come away with a thrilling 83-79 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 
  • Anderson led Madonna with 23 points, five assists, and four rebounds
  • Matthew MacLellan would knock down a career-high four three's as he finished with 18 points
  • Dunn finished in double-figures with 11 points and six assists
  • Young finished with another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds

The Crusaders are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
