LIVONIA, Mich. -- Madonna University athletic director Scott Kennell announced on Friday morning that David Gibson has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Communications and Marketing. 

"We are excited to have David on board with us," said Kennell. "He has some great ideas and his background across multiple levels of collegiate athletics will help continue to build the Madonna athletics brand."

Gibson, a native of Madison, Indiana, spent that past year as the Assistant Athletic Communications Director at Madonna. He was the primary contact for the track and field program, which includes the national championship men's outdoor track and field team, cross country,  men's basketball, and men's and women's lacrosse. He also served as the secondary contact for football and helped revamp the Crusaders social media presence. 

"I've always wanted to run my own department and am grateful to Scott Kennell and president Michael Grandillo for the opportunity to continue the rich tradition of Madonna athletic communications," said Gibson. "There's a great foundation built here and I'm excited to put my own spin on what Madonna athletics is all about and continue to build the crusader nation brand."

In addition to his sport coverage last season, Gibson helped increase engagement on all social media accounts, helped execute branding in the Performing Arts, Athletic and Academic Center, and helped develop social media strategies for the athletic teams. 

Prior to his time at Madonna, Gibson was the Digital and Social Media Assistant at Indiana University-Bloomington where he served as the primary social media coordinator for softball, wrestling, track & field, men's soccer and field hockey. He also executed Indiana Football's coverage of pre-season camp.

He also spent two years at University of Southern Indiana where he was the primary contact for cross country, tennis, golf, and track & field.

Gibson earned his Bachelor's Degree in Sport Management in 2019 from University of Southern Indiana. A Novi resident, Gibson is engaged to be married to his fiancé, Morgan.
