Cunningham Sets Another Crusader NAIA No. 1

LIVONIA, Mich. -- It was another three meet weekend for the Madonna University Men's and Women's Track & Field teams as Cortez Cunningham notches yet another number one time in the country in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics on Friday.

Cunningham took first in the men's 200m dash at the Strive For Greatness Invitational in Fort Wayne, Indiana as he crossed the line in 20.84 seconds for yet another number one time in the NAIA set by a Crusader this season. Cunningham also set a NAIA B standard in the 100m dash in 10.63 seconds.

At the same meet, Ja'Kelveon Jackson finished fourth and fifth in the men's long jump and triple jump finals with distances of 6.82m (22'4.5") and 13.85m (45'5.25"), respectively. 

At the 54th Hillsdale "GINA" Relays, Steven Anderson took down the school record and set a new NAIA A standard in the men's 110m hurled with a new time of 14.24 seconds. Anderson then followed up that performance with another NAIA A in the 400m hurdles, stopping watches in 53.51 seconds. 

In the women's 400m dash, Kamry Brown set the second school record of the weekend with a time of 57.55 seconds. Nia Wood followed just behind in 58.60 seconds. 

In Ann Arbor at the Legacy Invite, Matthias Jenkins finished second in the men's 110m hurdle field with a time of 16.14 seconds while in the field Emilee Kessler bested the field of 13 throwers in the women's disc for a new school record of 38.11m (125'). Samantha Wakefield finished fourth in the same event with a new best of 31.54m (103') while also setting a new PR in the women's shot put of 11.24m (36').

  • Wakefield set two PRs in the discus and shot put, 31.54m and 11.24m

WHAT'S NEXT?

Both squads will head to Fort Wayne, Indiana from Thursday, April 29 to Friday, April 30 at Warrior Park for the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
