LIVONIA, MI. - The Madonna University Women's Soccer Reserves finally took the field on Wednesday, March 10th to start the season with 3 games in 4 days. After all was said and done, the team won 2 out of 3 with 2-0 victory over University of Northwestern Ohio and a split of 1-0 games against rival Siena Heights University.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNOH – March 10 | Madonna 2, UNOH 0
- Madonna controlled for much of the first half, but the period ended with the score knotted at 0-0.
- Hailey Donnellon opened the scoring for Madonna early in the 2nd half after winning a loose ball off a corner and slotting into the goal.
- Natasha Fecay scored the insurance goal to cap of the 2-0 win in the 72nd minute.
- Mackenzie Fifer made 4 saves to secure the shutout.
- For the game, MU outshot UNOH by a 15-4 margin.
SHU (at SHU) - March 11 | Madonna 0, Siena Heights 0
- The Saints from SHU jumped all over the Crusaders in the first half with multiple shots on goal. MU Goalkeeper Mackenzie Fifer stood tall with multiple saves to keep a 0-0 tie going into halftime.
- The second half, was a much more even affair with end to end action and both teams getting in their chances.
- In the 72nd minute, Madonna hit the crossbar on a solid shot, just missing out on taking the lead.
- Siena Heights scored the game winner in the 84th minute to make the final score 1-0.
SHU (at Madonna) - March 13 | Madonna 1, Siena Heights 0
- A much more even game from the start, Madonna and SHU would both fire off 8 shots for the game, with Madonna leading in shots on goal 3-2.
- A 0-0 halftime tie would be broken in the 57th minute by Sylvia Rios who scored the game winner off a pass from Julieann White.
- Mackenzie Fifer made 2 saves to earn the shutout, her second of the season
