MU Reserves Win Inaugural WHAC Women’s Soccer Reserves Tournament

Livonia, MI. - The Madonna University Women's Soccer Reserves hosted the Inaugural WHAC Women's Soccer Reserves Tournament on Sunday, September 29.  Despite intermittent downpours, the tournament was a success with 5 quality matches and a PK Shootout tournament.  Madonna University won the overall tournament and University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) was victorious in the PK Shootout.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Madonna 4 – UNOH 0
    • Madonna faced off against UNOH in the tournament opener.
    • Gabby Dedvukaj scored first for Madonna who took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
    • In the second half the Crusaders extended their lead with goals from Cierra Von Zittwitz, Jamie Moceri, and Michelle Marzolo to finish off the scoring.
    • Shay Lindo and Erica Padula chipped in with an assist each.
 
  • Siena Heights 0 – Indiana Tech 1
    • The second match of the day pitted Siena Heights University against Indiana Tech.
    • Tech scored the lone goal just before halftime and held on for the win.
 
  • Aquinas College 5 – UNOH 0
    • Aquinas and UNOH squared off in the third match of the day.
    • Aquinas took a 1-0 lead into the break after a back and forth first half.
    • Aquinas applied a lot of pressure and netted 4 goals in the second half to win in runaway fashion.
 
  • Madonna 1- Siena Heights 0
    • The fourth match of the day featured Madonna and SHU in a second match for each.
    • MU's Julieann White scored in the 24th to give Madonna a 1-0 halftime lead.
    • The Crusaders held on through the second period for the 1-0 victory.
 
  • Aquinas 1- Indiana Tech 1
    • The fifth and last match pitted Aquinas against Indiana Tech with Championship implications.
    • An Aquinas victory would produce a tie on points with Madonna, but Aquinas would win the Championship on the tie breaker (Goals Scored).
    • An Indiana Tech victory would also produce a tie on points with Madonna and force the Championship to be decided by the tie breaker (Goals Scored)
    • The Saints scored first and looked to have the upper hand, but Tech evened the scored just before the half.
    • A scoreless second half produced a 1-1 tie for the match and an outright Championship for the tournament to Madonna University.
 
  • Penalty Kick Shootout Tournament
    • Between the second and third match, all 5 teams took place in the Penalty Kick Shootout, a single elimination tournament in PK shootout style.  Each team took 5 shots and the winner advances.
    • After 3 rounds the finals came down to Madonna University and UNOH.
    • UNOH was victorious 3-2 in the final round for the Championship.

  • The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, October 5th at Siena Heights University
  • Kickoff is at Noon followed by the Varsity Match at 2:30 PM.
