Matta Tabbed to Lead Men's Lacrosse Program

LIVONIA, Mich.-- Carlos Matta has been announced as the Madonna University Men's Lacrosse program's second Head Coach on Thursday after three years as an Associate Head Coach at Lourdes University (Ohio). 

"Ecstatic is an understatement to have Carlos on board," said Madonna Athletic Director Scott Kennell, "His resume and commitment to his student-athletes has spoken volumes about his ability to recruit and develop students that have a firm confidence in themselves along with character values that Madonna will be proud to serve."

After three years as the Associate Head Coach at Lourdes, Matta had previous stops as the West Ranch High School Head Coach in Santa Clarita, California setting the highest scoring season in Wildcats history along with securing the school's first-ever district championship. 

"I wanted to thank Athletic Director Scott Kennell for bringing me on," said Matta, "I'm really excited about the opportunity with great guys, great facilities, and I'm excited to get started with everyone and have a successful year."

The DeWitt, Michigan native attended fellow Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference school Indiana Tech as a midfielder as he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice in 2016.

"We're looking for student-athletes that are going to be accountable, hardworking, try their best in the classroom, and hold themselves to a high standard academically," said Matta, "Athletically, we are looking for student-athletes who want to play a fun, fast-style of lacrosse."

Matta resides in Sylvania, Ohio with his wife Alexa, who is the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Siena Heights University (Mich.). The couple have a daughter, Cleo.
