Madonna Rolls Past Lawrence Tech Behind Reidy’s Five Goals

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Madonna University exploded for 14 first-half goals and never looked back, rolling to a 22-6 road win over Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon at Blue Devil Stadium. The Crusaders seized control with a decisive six-goal second quarter and capped the rout with five goals in the fourth to finish off the nonconference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Madonna outscored Lawrence Tech in every quarter, building on an 8-4 first-quarter lead to go up 14-4 at halftime and 17-4 after three. The Crusaders closed the game with a 5-2 edge in the fourth, punctuated by a late tally from Jackson Gradstein with 2:31 remaining that set the final margin at 22-6.
Benjamin Reidy powered the Crusaders' attack with a game-high five goals and one assist, converting six of his seven shots on goal. Gradstein provided balance with three goals and two assists, while Rico Hart matched him with three goals and added four ground balls. Ryan Davis had an efficient day with two goals and two assists on two shots, and Cooper Regimbal chipped in one goal and two assists, including a first-quarter power-play strike that pushed Madonna's early advantage to 6-3.
After falling behind 2-0 on early goals by Lawrence Tech's Luke Gannon and Brendan Shinavier, Madonna responded with a 14-2 run that spanned the rest of the first half. Spencer Guppy's goal at 9:09 of the first quarter put the Crusaders on the board and sparked an eight-goal frame. Regimbal's man-up tally at 2:14 helped Madonna close the opening quarter up 8-4 despite a late short-handed goal from the Blue Devils' Trevor Donohue.
The second quarter belonged entirely to Madonna. Reid Dunavant opened the frame with a shorthanded goal at 8:48 to make it 9-4, and the Crusaders piled on with scores from Reidy, Carter Borsos and Hart to stretch the lead to 14-4 by halftime. Hart struck again early in the third quarter at 12:06, followed by goals from Reidy and Davis as Madonna blanked Lawrence Tech 3-0 in the third to take a 17-4 cushion into the final 15 minutes.
Lawrence Tech briefly halted the surge when Shinavier scored early in the fourth to cut the deficit to 17-5, but Davis answered just 21 seconds later to restore momentum for Madonna. Reidy added a power-play goal at 8:24 to push the Crusaders to 20 goals before Gradstein's late strike capped the scoring. Madonna finished with 22 goals on 67 shots, putting 47 attempts on frame, while sharing the ball effectively with 12 assists.
Despite being outdrawn 19-13 on faceoffs, the Crusaders controlled the game with pressure and possession, forcing 27 Lawrence Tech turnovers and converting both of their power-play chances. Madonna collected 18 ground balls and recorded 10 saves defensively, limiting the Blue Devils to six goals on 16 shots on target. The all-around performance underscored the Crusaders' offensive depth and defensive activity as they continued their early-season form.
