Livonia, Mich. - The Madonna University Women's Soccer Reserves defeated the Huntington University Reserves 1-0 at home and then went on the road to defeat Concordia University Wisconsin by an 8-0 score.  The victories run the Crusaders' record to 2-0 on the young season with two shutouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Huntington
    • Early in the first half, Gabby Dedvukaj found Destiny Carr for the first score of the match and what would be the game-winner.
    • Lauren Koscielniak earned the shutout in goal.
    • Lightning delayed the match and due to length of the delay, the match ended without going full time due to loss of daylight.
  • Concordia University Wisconsin
    • The Crusaders went on an extended road trip that included two Varsity matches as well as the Reserve match vs Concordia.
    • Early in the first half, Julieann White slipped a ball in to Sylvia Rios, who took a touch and slotted home the first goal of the match.
    • By halftime, Rios had added 3 more goals to her total while Rachel LaRowe added a goal and an assist for a 5-0 halftime lead.
    • The second half saw more of the same with the Crusaders tacking on 3 more goals.  Rios scored her fifth of the match with Sydnie Voss and Erica Padula each adding one.  White, LaRowe, and Michelle Marzolo added to the cause with an assist apiece.
    • Lauren Koscielniak and Emi Izirien split time in goal and combined for the shutout.
PATTON'S PARLOR
  • "Two wins and two shutouts in as many games is a good start for the Reserve Squad this season.  I thought we saw some glimpses of what we could do in the scrimmage versus Delta, and now we're starting to put it together.  I am excited for what is possible this year.  We're putting the ball in the goal and spreading the shots around.  The defense has been strong and our goalkeepers have made some good saves.  We'll keep working hard to continue the improvement." - Head Coach Paul Patton on the start of the season.
UP NEXT
  • The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 as the Reserve Squad hosts the Washtenaw Community College Club team at 3:30 pm at the M.A.C.
