BASEBALL OPENS CONCORDIA SERIES WITH THURSDAY DOUBLE HEADER

LIVONIA, Mich. - - The Madonna University baseball team closes out a nine-game homestand this weekend with a Thursday (April 5) – Saturday (April 7) Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) series against Concordia University at the Madonna University Athletic Complex, the home of Ilitch Ballpark.

MU (25-12, 9-3 WHAC) comes into the weekend with a one-game lead on second place Davenport and Indiana Tech after sweeping its series against Lourdes. Concordia (14-19, 5-7 WHAC) is in a tie for fifth with Aquinas after being splitting last weekend's series against Siena Heights.

The Crusaders are currently third in the WHAC in both batting average (.302) and runs batted in per game (5.32) while ranking second in earned run average (3.08) and opponent batting average (.248).

Senior Dan Harder (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) was named the WHAC Player of the Week on Monday and is currently third in the league in batting average, sporting a .422 average. Junior Matthew Cook (Dresden, Ontario / Lambton Kent Secondary) is second in the league in ERA (1.82) while classmate and 2011 NAIA All-America selection Jeremy Gooding (Livonia, Mich. / Divine Child Catholic) is in fourth with a 2.21 ERA.

Following this weekend's series, the Crusaders play their next eight games on the road starting with a four-game set at Davenport April 14-15.
