LIVONIA, Mich. MU won the day's opener 5-3 at Ilitch Ballpark.

Junior Robert Fraser (Westland, Mich. / John Glenn) earned the win in game one, throwing a complete game, striking out six while only walking one and scattering six hits to improve to 3-2 on the year. Freshman Travis Schuba (Rapid City, Mich. / Kalkaska) threw three innings of relief in the nightcap, striking out two for his second win of the year. Brett Kuebler took the loss in game one while Jacob Kret took the loss in game two for SHU.

The Crusaders scored four times in the bottom of the first inning in the day's opener, starting with a Bultinck single. After a ground out and an error put two on for senior Matt Kay (Canton, Mich. / Canton), Kay put MU on top 1-0 with a double to left. Junior Dan Harder (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) followed Kay with a singe of his own to score Pelletier and make it 2-0. Freshman Victor Barron (Fowlerville, Mich. / Fowlerville) drove in a pair of runs with a triple to right center to cap the scoring in the inning and put MU on top 4-0 after an inning.

MU added another run in the second when Bultinck hit his second home run of the season, this one a solo shot to center, to put the Crusaders on top 5-0.

SHU got a pair of runs back in the fifth, taking advantage of a MU miscue to cut the MU lead to 5-2.

The Saints added another run in the sixth to trim their deficit to just a pair of runs, 5-3.

Fraser (3-2) stopped the SHU scoring there, sending the side down in order in the seventh for the win.

The Crusaders scored first again in game two, plating a single run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Bultinck singled home junior Billy Hardin III (Livonia, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) who had earlier doubled for the early lead.

The Saints blew the game open in the fourth, scoring four times to take a 4-1 lead. SHU took advantage of a pair of Crusader errors in taking their first lead of the day.

The game remained 4-1 in favor of SHU until the top of the ninth. Hardin III led off with a single and moved to second on a pinch hit single from Harder to put two on for Bultinck. The Crusaders' second baseman then delivered a two RBI double to right center to pull MU back to within one, 4-3. After Bultinck moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from junior Drew Adamiec (Walled Lake, Mich. / Western), a sacrifice fly from Pelletier tied the game at four.

Schuba sent the Saints down in order in the bottom of the ninth and send the game to extra innings.

MU had a chance to take the lead in the top of the 10th as Baron reached on a double but was stranded at third to keep the game tied at four.

SHU put two runners on in the bottom of the 10th but also got nothing across to force an 11th inning.

Sophomore Alex Charles (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Brother Rice Catholic) led off with a single and moved to second on a bunt single from Bultinck. Adamiec then dropped down another sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. Pelletier then delivered a double to right center that plated both runners and put MU on top 6-4.

Schuba (2-0) retired the Saints in order in the bottom half of the inning to pick up his second win of the year.
