NO. 10 BASEBALL SEES HISTORIC SEASON END AT NO. 3 CAL BAPTIST

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The No. 10-ranked Madonna University baseball team saw its historic 2010 season come to an end on Thursday (May 20) with an 11-4 loss to No. 3-ranked California Baptist University in the Opening Round of the 2010 NAIA National Championship at Totman Stadium.

The Crusaders end the year at 48-11 and set a new program record for wins while capturing the school's third straight Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship. 2010 also marks the second straight season the Crusaders have advanced to the national championship's opening round.

MU claimed an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Ted Toune (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center/Lansing CC) and Billy Hardin III (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central/Ashland) led off with back-to-back singles. Drew Fry (Madison Heights, Mich./Madison Heights) came up two batters later and stroked a double down the line in right to put the Crusaders on top 2-0.

CBU's Brian Sharp made it 2-1 in the bottom of the inning with a home run off of MU starter Tom Hansen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) but MU came back with two more runs in the top of the third to increase its lead to 4-1.

Jeff Bultinck (Sterling Heights, Mich./Notre Dame Prep/Concordia) drove in Hardin III with a double to make it 3-1 before moving up on a wild pitch and scoring on a Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich./Novi) ground out to make it 4-1.

The Lancers made it a one-run game in the fourth by scoring a pair of runs before plating three more runs in the fifth and chasing Hansen (6-2) after claiming a 5-4 lead.

CBU reliever Mike Barrow limited MU to just one hit while striking out four in his six innings of work as the Lancers tacked on three more runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 11-4 final.

The Crusaders lose five seniors off of the 2010 squad: John Ballarin (Westland, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central/Eastern Michigan), Kyle Bolton (Burlington, Ont./Notre Dame/Indiana Tech), Flavin, Fry and Toune.
