KENTWOOD, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - A combined 10 home runs in the double header along with solid pitching on the mound gave the No. 18-ranked Madonna University baseball team a sweep at Davenport on Saturday (April 10). MU won game one 7-2 and completed the sweep with a 17-5 win at East Kentwood High School.
Jeremy Gooding (Livonia, Mich./Divine Child/Saginaw Valley) went five innings in the opener, striking out three while allowing three hits to improve to 5-0 on the year.
Kyle Bolton (Burlington, Ont./Notre Dame/Indiana Tech) came in to close the last two innings and did not allow a base runner.
John Ballarin (Westland, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central/Eastern Michigan) threw a complete game in the night cap to improve to 3-1 on the year. Ballarin struck out eight while only walking one.
Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich./Novi) went a combined 4-for-7 with a pair of home runs in the opener and six runs batted in.
Spencer Sarel (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) tallied six hits in the twin bill while driving in four.

In the opener Sarel clubbed a two-run shot to center in the top of the first and two hitters later Flavin did the same to put MU on top 4-0 after just half an inning.
The offense continued in the top of the second when Flavin hit a three-run bomb to left to make it 7-0 MU.
Gooding allowed single runs in both the fourth and sixth but kept the Panthers at bay most of the day, allowing just three hits for his fifth win of the year.
In the night cap, the Panthers scored a single run in the bottom of the first to go on top 1-0 but the Crusaders answered back in the second as Harder led off with a home run to tie the game at 1-1 and Hardin III followed with a homer to make it 2-1 MU.
The Crusaders tacked on another run in the third when Bultinck singled with two outs and came home two hitters later on a Flavin single to make it 3-1.
DU retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Austin Licon hit a three-run homer to center that made it 4-3 but the lead was short lived as MU came back in a big way in the top of the fifth, scoring nine runs all with two outs.
Bultinck started with a two-run homer to right to make it 5-4 and two hitters later Kay hit a two-run blast of his own that made it 7-4. Hardin III singled and came home on Little's first homer of the season to make it 9-4. MU added 12-4 by the end of the inning and while DU got one run back in the bottom of the inning, homers from Hardin III and Toune in the top of the sixth gave MU a 17-5 lead.
Ballarin allowed a lead off walk in the sixth but sent the next three hitters down in order for his third win of the year.
The Crusaders and Panthers wrap up their series on Sunday with another double header. First pitch is set for 1pm.
