BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - Giving up seven runs in the first three innings was too much to overcome for the Madonna University baseball team as the Crusaders fell to St. Xavier University by a final of 16-2 on Friday (April 9) at Nichols Field.

The Cougars scored runs in six of the nine innings to upend the Crusaders. MU's lone highlight at the plate was a two-run single from freshman Spencer Sarel(Brighton, Mich./Brighton) that brought in both Crusader runs.

Trent Pohl (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge/Wayne State) took the loss for MU, falling to 1-1 on the year. Pohl went 2 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits while walking five. The Crusader pitching staff walked 13 hitters and hit a 14th on the day.

Madonna returns to the field on Saturday (April 10) in a WHAC double header at Davenport. First pitch at East Kentwood High School is set for 1pm.
