LIVONIA, Mich. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The No. 15-rannked Madonna University baseball team scored early and often in Saturday's (April 17) first game and needed a come-from-behind win in game two, capped by a walk-off single from junior Matt Kay (Canton, Mich./Canton/Henry Ford CC) to complete its sweep over Concordia University at Ilitch Ballpark. MU won game one 9-1 before rallying for a 5-4 win in the night cap.

Sophomore Dan Harder (Brighton, Mich./Brighton/Heidelberg) went 4-for-5 with four runs batted in while senior Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich./Novi) also posted four hits on the afternoon. Freshman Spencer Sarel (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) posted three hits in game one for the Crusaders.

Sophomore Robert Fraser (Westland, Mich./John Glenn) threw a complete game in the opener, striking out six and did not allow an earned run to raise his record to 4-1 on the year. Classmate Tom Hansen (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams) matched Fraser with a complete game effort in the night cap, striking out seven while walking just one and not allowing an earned run.

The Crusaders opened game one with a run in the bottom of the first when Billy Hardin III (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central/Ashland) hit a one-out double and after moving up on a passed ball, came home on a Flavin double to make it 1-0.

The Cards tied the game in the top of second, taking advantage of a lead off walk and an error on Fraser to score a run and square the game at 1-1.

Harder untied the game in the bottom of the second inning by hitting his third homer of the season, a lead off shot to center to make it 2-1.

MU scored single runs in the third and fourth innings before adding a pair of runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth for the 9-1 final.

Game two was scoreless until the top of the third inning when Concordia scored four unearned runs off of Hansen to jump on top 4-0.

Madonna tied the game in the bottom of the fourth by scoring four unearned runs of its own to knot the game at 4-4. Flavin started the inning with a one-out double and Kay followed with a walk. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch before Brad Lineberry (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) reached on a fielding error to score both runners and make it 4-2. Hardin III drew a walk to put runners on first and second for the pinch hitting Harder. Pinch runner Steve Pelletier (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) and Lineberry moved up on a wild pitch before Harder drove both runs in with a double to tie the game at 4-4.

Concordia threatened in the sixth, loading the bases before Hansen was able to work out of the jam, thanks to an inning ending play by Hardin III at short to get the force at second and keep the game tied.

After Hansent sent CU down in order in the top of the seventh, Ted Toune (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center/Lansing CC) led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. Sarel tried to sacrifice Toune into scoring position, but instead reached base when the attempted throw to second to cut Toune down was late, allowing both runners to be safe. The Cards issued an intentional walk to Flavin to load the bases and Kay then drove a ball through the drawn-in infield to score Toune from third for the game winning run.

The Crusaders take Sunday off but return to the field on Monday (April 19) to host Rochester College in a 1pm double header at Ilitch Ballpark.
