AUBURNDALE, Fla. (MadonnaCrusaders.com) - - The No. 21-ranked Madonna University baseball team continued its torrid hitting pace on Sunday (March 7), sweeping a split double header from Mount Marty and Purdue University North Central by finals of 8-2 and 10-3 respectively. The wins are the Crusaders sixth straight since coming to Florida late last week.

MOUNT MARTY
The Lancers struck first, getting a run off of Madonna starter Robert Fraser (Westland, Mich.) in the top of the second inning to go on top 1-0.

The Crusaders responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead away from MMC. Junior Tim Duffy (Carleton, Mich.) reached on a one-out single and moved to second on a walk to freshman Brad Lineberry (Canton, Mich.).A ground out from freshman Donny Holland (White Lake, Mich.) drove in Duffy - who, along with Lineberry, moved up on a wild pitch earlier in the at-bat - to tie the game at one. Lineberry scored one hitter later when a ball off of the bat of junior Shawn Little (Canton, Mich.) was misplayed allowing Little to reach first and Lineberry to score for a 2-1 Madonna lead.

The Crusaders tacked on single runs in the third and fourth - highlighted by a RBI double from Holland - to go up by three at 4-1 before adding two more runs in the fifth. Senior Ted Toune (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led off the fifth with a triple and came into score two batters later on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Billy Hardin III (Livonia, Mich.) to make it 5-1. The lead grew to 6-1 when MU pulled off a double steal with Juniors Matt Kay (Canton, Mich.) and Jeff Bultinck (Sterling Heights, Mich.) that saw Kay cross the plate for the five-run lead.

After the Lancers made it a 6-2 game with a run in the top of the six, the Crusaders put the game away in the bottom of the inning, scoring two more runs on a two-out single from senior Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich.) to make it 8-2.

Fraser then came on for the seventh and finished the complete game to move to 2-0 on the season. Fraser allowed six hits while striking out seven in the win. Flavin led the way at the plate, stroking two hits while joining Little with two runs batted in.

PURDUE NORTH CENTRAL
The Madonna bats carried over their hot hitting from the day's opener to the night cap as MU downed Purdue North Central 10-3.

The Crusaders scored four runs in the top of the first inning with Flavin driving in a pair with a double to center that scored Toune and Hardin for a 2-0 lead. The lead grew to 3-0 when junior Dan Harder (Brighton, Mich.) singled to score Flavin before scoring a run himself when Lineberry tripled for the 4-0 lead after just a half inning.

The Panthers had an answer for the Madonna attack, scoring three runs off of MU starter Tommy Hansen (Rochester Hills, Mich.) in the bottom of the first to make the game a one-run affair at 4-3 after one inning.

Madonna put two runs on the board in the top of the second when a Toune single scored courtesy runner Steve Pelletier (Farmington Hills, Mich.) to make it 5-3. The lead grew to 6-3 when Bultinck's sacrifice fly scored Toune to put MU back up by three.

Hansen settled in, not allowing another run to score while seeing his offense tack on a single run in the third and three more in the fifth for the 10-3 final. Hansen (1-0) was effective in his first start of the season, striking out six and scattering eight hits over six innings of work. Junior Andrew Harris (Northville, Mich.) closed out the seventh, recording a pair of strike outs in a perfect inning of relief work. Flavin again had the hot bat for MU, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs while Lineberry added a pair of hits and scored a run for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders return to the field on Monday (March 8) with a double header against Calumet College of St. Joseph starting at 10am at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg, Fla.
