MADONNA PITCHERS BLANK SIENA HEIGHTS IN LEAGUE WINS

LIVONIA, Mich. -  The Madonna baseball team used a pair of complete game pitching performances, timely hitting and great defense to shutout visiting Siena Heights, 5-0 and 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Ilitch Ballpark.

Senior Eric Wendling picked up the victory in game one, scattering four hits and striking out four on the way to his second win of the season against no defeats.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a RBI single to left by Pat Kenny, scoring Zack McMillin.

MU added two more in the fourth when Ryan Morrow doubled and later scored on a base-hit by freshman Sean Little.  Little would later score as McMillin got in a run-down between first and second base, just long enough to let Little cross the plate.

It was all the offense Wendling and the Crusaders would need on their way to the 3-0 game one win.

In game two, junior right-hander Richard Lindquist went the distance on the mound, allowing six hits while striking out six for his second win of the season.

The Crusaders got on the board in the third inning, capped by a two-run home by first baseman Kevin Zerbo, his third of the season to take a 3-0 lead.

The lead swelled to 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth when freshman Mike Gansser connected on his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot to left.

Lindquist cruised his way through the game with pinpoint control, allowing just one walk in the contest.

With the wins, Madonna improves to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.  Siena Heights falls to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in WHAC action.

The Crusaders are scheduled to be back in action at home Wednesday when the face Aquinas College in a pair of WHAC games.  First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
