LIVONIA, Mich. - - Behind 15-point efforts from three Crusaders, including a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds from senior Alyssa Guerin (Plymouth, Mich.), the Madonna women's basketball team upset No. 8 Indiana Wesleyan 76-66 on Friday (Nov. 21) night as part of the 2008 WHAC/MCC Challenge inside the Activities Center.

The opening half saw IWU jump out to an early seven-point cushion with 15:54 left in the half after LeAnn Dougls' lay-up made it 13-6. MU then went on a 7-0 run to take the lead, albeit briefly at 14-13 using buckets from Vanessa LaMay (Taylor, Mich.), Guerin and a pair of score from Katie Mount (Waterford, Mich.).

The two sides traded scores with the Wildcats building its lead back slowly out to eight with 3:46 showing on the clock on an three-point play from Douglas to take a 31-23 lead. The Crusaders then cut the lead back down to three, the last score coming from Sheryl Jager (Wyandotte, Mich.) on a put back with 45 ticks left to send the two teams into the halftime intermission with IWU up 36-33.

Coming out of the break the Crusader offense woke up and Christie Carrico (Waterford, Mich.) tied the affair at 36-all with a triple from the left corner just under two minutes into the half. Carrico then gave the Crusaders a 38-36 lead they would not relinquish after Tabatha Wydryck (Wyandotte, Mich.) stole the ball from Jena Schafer and fed an open Carrico streaking to the hoop for the score.

From there MU went on a 23-12 run over the next nine minutes to build its lead up to the largest of the night at 13 points, 61-48. IWU cut back into the lead, trimming it to as few as five with 3:48 left, taking advantage of back-to-back MU turnovers to climb back into the game at 66-61.

Madonna maintained its lead and made seven of the 10 free throws it shot over the last 1:50 to seal up the 10-point win 77-66.

Guerin, Carrico and Wydryck each had 15 while Carrico just missed joining Guerin in the double-double club with nine rebounds. IWU's Elaine Hessel led all scorers with 22 points.

The road does not get any easier for MU as the Crusaders make the short trip down Interstate 94 on Saturday to take on NCAA Division I foe Eastern Michigan. The Crusaders and Eagles will tip at 2pm inside the Convocation Center.
