Crusaders Fall to No. 9 Marian on the Road

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Madonna women's lacrosse faced another top-10 test Friday afternoon, falling to No. 9 Marian 21–4 at ASV Field.

Marian came out strong from the opening draw, scoring 11 goals in the first quarter to take early control of the contest. Despite the early deficit, Madonna found a spark late in the opening frame when Danielle Turner scored to put the Crusaders on the board.

The Crusaders showed more offensive rhythm in the second quarter, as Emma Volpe capitalized on a man-up opportunity and Turner added her second goal of the game to cut into the deficit. Marian, however, responded with three goals of its own to carry a 14–3 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Madi Conrad added another goal for Madonna, but Marian continued to control possession and extend its lead heading into the final period.

Turner led the Crusaders with two goals, while Volpe and Conrad each added a goal. Madonna generated 14 shots in the contest and remained perfect on clears, finishing 11-for-11.

Defensively, LeeAnn Johnson led the way with four ground balls and multiple caused turnovers, while Abigail Hanchett added strong defensive pressure throughout the game.

In goal, Olivia Vitantonio recorded four saves in the first half, while Kaitlin Abraham added four saves in relief during the second half.

Marian was led by Ruby Mason with five goals, while Alex Dean added four as the Knights maintained control throughout the matchup.

Madonna will look to regroup as it continues conference play following another matchup against a nationally ranked opponent.
