Regimbal’s nine goals power Madonna past Indiana Tech 25-11

FORT WAYNE, Ind.-- Madonna erased an early three-goal deficit and took control before halftime Saturday, rolling past Indiana Tech 25-11 at Warrior Athl. Field in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The decisive turn came after Indiana Tech surged ahead 3-0 in the opening quarter, only for the Crusaders to answer with a seven-goal finish to the quarter and then add nine more goals in the second for a 16-6 halftime lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Cooper Regimbal led Madonna's offense with nine goals and one assist, including a late first-quarter score that put the Crusaders in front 7-4 with 32 seconds left. Rico Hart added five goals and one assist, and Ryan Davis contributed three goals and two assists as Madonna piled up 25 goals on 46 shots. The Crusaders also finished with 18 assists, a sign of the ball movement that helped stretch the game open after Indiana Tech's fast start.

Indiana Tech struck first and briefly seized momentum behind Jake Deacon's opening goal and an early tally from Cam Fewster that made it 3-0 with 11:15 left in the first quarter. Madonna's response was immediate and sustained. By the end of the first quarter, Regimbal's goal had completed the turnaround, and the Crusaders kept pressing in the second. Hart scored at 6:51 to extend the lead to 10-5, and Carter Borsos found the net with 13 seconds remaining before halftime to send Madonna into the break ahead by 10.

The Crusaders maintained control through the middle quarters. Hart opened the third quarter with a goal at 12:48 for a 17-6 edge, and Regimbal converted an extra-man opportunity at 4:07 to make it 20-6. Madonna finished with two power-play goals and held Indiana Tech scoreless on all seven of its extra-man chances, a key difference in the game. The Crusaders also held a narrow 20-18 advantage in faceoffs and were successful on 17 of 19 clears.

Goalkeeping and possession work helped support the offensive outburst. Madonna recorded 25 saves while facing 62 shots and 36 shots on goal, limiting the damage even as Indiana Tech generated volume. The Crusaders collected 51 ground balls and forced 31 turnovers, repeatedly disrupting Indiana Tech's attempts to settle into its offense. Fewster still produced a strong individual game for Indiana Tech with seven goals and one assist, accounting for most of the home team's scoring.

Hart added another extra-man goal with 13:51 left in the fourth quarter to push the lead to 22-8, and Regimbal scored again at 10:10 as Madonna reached its 25-goal total. Fewster scored Indiana Tech's final goal with 5:08 remaining, setting the margin at the 25-11 final.
