Madonna Wins both in Doubleheader at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, IN - Madonna built an early lead behind Brynn Anteau's bat and then held off a late Indiana Tech rally for a 10-9 softball win Sunday at Warrior Park.

GAME 1:
The decisive stretch came in the first two innings, when the Crusaders scored seven times, including Anteau's two-run home run in the first and a five-run second that gave Madonna control of the game.

The Crusaders struck first with Anteau's opening-inning shot, then broke the game open in the second. Anteau added a two-RBI single in the inning, and Faith Cramton delivered an RBI double as Madonna turned a 2-1 edge into a 7-2 advantage. Madonna finished with 10 runs on 12 hits, taking advantage of three Indiana Tech errors while also drawing five walks and adding three doubles.
Anteau led the offense with three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs. Cramton added two hits, both doubles, and drove in two runs. Madonna also added a run in the fourth inning and then created needed breathing room in the sixth, when two more runs, including another RBI double by Cramton, pushed the lead to 10-6.
Indiana Tech kept pressure on throughout, collecting 14 hits and scoring in six of seven innings. Avery Kidwell was the main threat for the Warriors, hitting a home run in the second and a two-run double during a three-run seventh inning that brought Indiana Tech within a run. Kidwell finished with four RBIs, while Kaelie Kugler had three hits and Morgan Macek added two hits and two runs scored.
Madonna's pitching staff worked all seven innings, allowing nine earned runs on 14 hits while walking one and striking out three over 116 pitches. The Crusaders also limited the damage enough to survive the final push, finishing with one error and stranding Indiana Tech just short of a full comeback. Indiana Tech left seven runners on base, while Madonna stranded eight. Indiana Tech had the tying run in play in the seventh, but the Crusaders' early burst, especially Anteau's first-inning home run and the five-run second, proved to be the difference.

GAME 2:
Madonna put the game away almost as soon as it began Sunday, scoring 10 times in the first inning on the way to a 10-1 softball win over Indiana Tech in five innings at Fort Wayne, Ind.
The decisive stretch came immediately. The Crusaders sent runners around all over the bases in the opening frame, piling up hits and pressure before Indiana Tech could settle in. Ashley Rosiewicz helped drive the outburst, singling early in the inning and later belting a two-run home run. Regan Finkbeiner also played a central role in the rally. She was hit by a pitch, stole second and eventually scored, then added a two-RBI single later in the inning as Madonna built a 10-0 lead.
Madonna finished with 11 hits, two walks and just three runners left on base. Faith Peschke set the tone with a perfect 3-for-3 day and one RBI, while Rosiewicz went 2-for-3 with the home run, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Finkbeiner drove in two runs and scored twice, and Brynn Anteau added two hits, one RBI and a run as the Crusaders made the most of nearly every early scoring chance.
The pitching side was steady once the early margin was in place. Madonna worked all five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run on 85 pitches. The Crusaders did not record a strikeout, but they kept Indiana Tech from putting together a bigger inning despite five walks issued. Defensively, Madonna played a clean game without an error, an important detail in a matchup where Indiana Tech left 10 runners on base.
Indiana Tech scored its only run in the third inning when Lily Barringer singled to left to bring home Avery Kidwell, trimming the deficit to 10-1. That proved to be the only breakthrough against Madonna pitching. The Warriors finished with four hits, while their staff threw 100 pitches and allowed all 10 runs in the opening inning.
With the result, Madonna turned a fast start into a complete five-inning performance. The first inning told the story, 10 runs, 11 total hits and no defensive miscues, more than enough support to close out a convincing road win.
