Crusaders Shutout Warriors in Sweep

LIVONIA, Mich - Madonna put the game away with a five-run fourth inning and defeated Rochester Christian (Mich.) 11-0 in five innings Wednesday at University Field.

GAME 1:
The Crusaders piled up 13 hits, turned four triples into instant offense and backed Camille Oyer's one-hit shutout in a game that ended early by run rule.

The Crusaders set the tone in the first. Brynn Anteau tripled to help ignite the opening rally, and Faith Cramton followed with an RBI single as Madonna moved in front 2-0. After a scoreless second, the lineup broke the game open in the third. Rylee Fitzpatrick drove in a run with a single, Ella Thomas lined a two-run triple, and Faith Peschke added a run-scoring triple to stretch the lead to 6-0.
Madonna removed any suspense in the fourth. Cramton doubled home a run, Carson Kuhlmann added an RBI single, and Peschke delivered the decisive blow with a three-RBI triple that pushed the advantage to 11-0. Peschke finished 3 for 3 with four RBIs and two triples, while Cramton also went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs. Thomas chipped in a two-run triple, giving Madonna four triples in the game.
Oyer handled the rest from the circle. The Madonna starter worked all five innings, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out three on 77 pitches. Rochester Christian put only three runners on base and did not score, while the Crusaders played error-free defense behind Oyer to preserve the shutout.
Rochester Christian's pitching staff was charged with 11 runs, nine earned, while Madonna finished with 11 runs on 13 hits and no errors. The Crusaders scored twice in the first, added four in the third and closed with five in the fourth, a clean and direct path to a five-inning victory.

GAME 2:
Madonna broke through in the first inning and never let Rochester Christian back into the game Wednesday, riding early pressure at the plate and a combined four-hit shutout to a 6-0 win at University Field in Livonia, Mich. The Crusaders scored twice in the bottom of the first, added another run in the second, then put the game away with a three-run fourth inning led by Ashley Rosiewicz and Brynn Anteau.
The decisive stretch came in the fourth. With Madonna already ahead 3-0, Rosiewicz drove a double to left that brought home Regan Finkbeiner and Faith Peschke, then moved to third on the throw. Anteau followed with a run-scoring groundout to shortstop, pushing the advantage to 6-0 and giving the pitching staff more than enough room. Rosiewicz finished 3 for 4 with three runs scored, two RBIs, a triple, a double and a stolen base, while Anteau added a triple, two RBIs and a walk.
Madonna set the tone right away in the opening inning. Rosiewicz scored the game's first run when Faith Cramton reached on a Rochester Christian fielding error, and the Crusaders made it 2-0 later in the frame when Rylee Fitzpatrick also reached on an error that allowed Anteau to come home. In the second, Rosiewicz tripled to right-center and then scored on Anteau's RBI triple, extending the lead to 3-0.
In the circle, Sara Austin earned the win after working 4.2 scoreless innings. Austin allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked two before Anna Battagin came on in relief to finish the shutout. Together, the Crusaders limited Rochester Christian to four hits. Madonna's staff also worked around seven runners left on base by Rochester Christian and kept the visitors off the scoreboard in every inning.
Madonna finished with eight hits, three walks and four stolen bases, while Rochester Christian was charged with two errors that helped fuel the early deficit. Rochester Christian starter Emily Leusby went six innings and struck out two, but took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned. The win moved through a clean, efficient script for the Crusaders: early pressure, extra-base hits in key spots and a pitching performance that closed the door before Rochester Christian could mount a threat.
