Madonna rolls past Lawrence Tech 27-7 behind fast start

LIVONIA. Mich - Madonna seized control early and never let go Wednesday night, defeating Lawrence Tech 27-7 in Livonia behind a six-goal first quarter and a decisive advantage at the faceoff stripe. Ryan Davis scored the opening goal just 32 seconds into the game, and the Crusaders kept building from there, outscoring Lawrence Tech in every quarter on the way to the lopsided win.
The decisive stretch came in the opening 15 minutes. After Davis opened the scoring at 14:28 off an assist from James Sprott, Cooper Regimbal and Carter Borsos added goals 30 seconds apart to push Madonna in front 3-0. Matthew DiSalle later made it 5-0, and even after Lawrence Tech got on the board twice in the middle of the quarter, DeMario Williams answered with 1:16 left to send Madonna into the second quarter with a 6-2 lead. The Crusaders added seven more goals in the second quarter, including a man-up finish from Rico Hart at 10:12, and took a 13-3 advantage into halftime.
Madonna's offense stayed balanced even as Hart led the way. Hart finished with five goals, while Davis recorded three goals and two assists. Regimbal and Ross Preston each had two goals and four assists, helping drive a passing attack that produced 18 assists on 27 goals. The Crusaders generated steady pressure throughout the night, finishing with a 75-28 edge in shots and putting 46 attempts on goal. Owen Barker scored twice, Williams added three goals, and Makian Chamblis delivered a strong fourth-quarter finish with three goals, including a power-play score with 2:08 remaining.
The third quarter removed any remaining doubt. Madonna scored nine times in the period and held Lawrence Tech scoreless, stretching the margin from 13-3 to 22-3. Hart opened the half with a goal at 14:09, Regimbal scored less than two minutes later off a Preston assist, and Williams followed 10 seconds after that. Later in the quarter, Davis scored again off Marcus Dochenetz's assist, Chamblis added a goal from Gabe Vennard, and Williams closed another burst with 55 seconds left. By then, Madonna's control in possession had become overwhelming.
That possession edge started at the faceoff, where Madonna won 27 of 38 draws. The Crusaders also led 52-20 in ground balls and committed 10 fewer turnovers than Lawrence Tech. Those numbers helped fuel repeat offensive trips and limited Lawrence Tech's chances to build momentum. Brendan Shinavier led Lawrence Tech with three goals, and Parker Gannon scored twice. Goalie Dylan Porter played the full 60 minutes for Lawrence Tech and finished with 19 saves despite the constant pressure.
Madonna's work in goal matched the team's control elsewhere. Jonathan Bendfeldt and Eric Deisher combined for 11 saves as the Crusaders held Lawrence Tech to 18 shots on goal. Lawrence Tech found four goals in the fourth quarter, two from Shinavier, but Madonna answered each push. Marcus Villagomez scored a power-play goal early in the quarter, DiSalle answered after consecutive Lawrence Tech goals cut the deficit to 23-6, and the Crusaders closed the night with late finishes from Chamblis and Barker. Barker's goal with 1:29 left, assisted by Dylan Hicks, capped the 27-7 final.
