LIVONIA. Mich - Madonna seized control early and never let go Wednesday night, defeating Lawrence Tech 27-7 in Livonia behind a six-goal first quarter and a decisive advantage at the faceoff stripe.
Ryan Davis scored the opening goal just 32 seconds into the game, and the Crusaders kept building from there, outscoring Lawrence Tech in every quarter on the way to the lopsided win.
The decisive stretch came in the opening 15 minutes. After Davis opened the scoring at 14:28 off an assist from
James Sprott,
Cooper Regimbal and
Carter Borsos added goals 30 seconds apart to push Madonna in front 3-0.
Matthew DiSalle later made it 5-0, and even after Lawrence Tech got on the board twice in the middle of the quarter,
DeMario Williams answered with 1:16 left to send Madonna into the second quarter with a 6-2 lead. The Crusaders added seven more goals in the second quarter, including a man-up finish from
Rico Hart at 10:12, and took a 13-3 advantage into halftime.
Madonna's offense stayed balanced even as Hart led the way. Hart finished with five goals, while Davis recorded three goals and two assists. Regimbal and
Ross Preston each had two goals and four assists, helping drive a passing attack that produced 18 assists on 27 goals. The Crusaders generated steady pressure throughout the night, finishing with a 75-28 edge in shots and putting 46 attempts on goal.
Owen Barker scored twice, Williams added three goals, and
Makian Chamblis delivered a strong fourth-quarter finish with three goals, including a power-play score with 2:08 remaining.
