Steady Hitting and Strong Pitching Power Madonna to Sweep of Aquinas

ROCKFORD, Mich. — A four-run sixth inning, punctuated by Faith Cramton's three-run double, broke the game open and lifted Madonna University to an 8-1 road win over Aquinas (MI) on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
The Crusaders methodically built their lead, scoring in four different innings before delivering the decisive blow in the sixth. Cramton finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, two doubles, a run scored and a stolen base to pace a Madonna offense that totaled seven hits, four doubles and six stolen bases. Starting pitcher Camille Oyer backed the effort in the circle, working six strong innings and limiting the Saints to one run on five hits with three strikeouts and just one walk.
Madonna struck first in the top of the second when Rylee Fitzpatrick doubled down the left-field line, driving in Cramton for a 1-0 lead. Aquinas answered in the bottom half as Karigann Cuthbert delivered a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Abby Nieswender to tie the game at 1-1. From there, Oyer and the Crusaders' defense kept the Saints in check, allowing no runs over the final five innings.
The Crusaders reclaimed the lead in the third. Cramton came through with an infield RBI single to second, plating Regan Finkbeiner to make it 2-1. Madonna added separation in the fourth when Ashley Rosiewicz doubled to left field, driving in two unearned runs and pushing the advantage to 4-1. Rosiewicz finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, a walk and a stolen base as another key piece of the Madonna lineup.
Madonna put the game out of reach in the sixth. After a wild pitch brought home one run earlier in the frame, Cramton drilled a double to right-center, clearing the bases for three more runs and an 8-1 cushion. The four-run inning effectively sealed the outcome, giving Oyer plenty of support before she handed the ball off after six innings of work. Aquinas managed five hits but stranded six runners, unable to capitalize against Oyer and the Crusaders' defense.
Statistically, Madonna finished with eight runs on seven hits while committing one error and leaving six on base. The Crusaders' pressure on the basepaths was evident with six stolen bases. Aquinas recorded one run on five hits with two errors and six runners left on base. Saints starter Sydney Bosgraaf took the loss after 5 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits with six walks, one strikeout and a wild pitch.
Mallory Buikema led Aquinas at the plate, going 3-for-3, but the Saints' offense could not generate sustained rallies. With the win, Madonna showcased a balanced formula of timely extra-base hitting, aggressive baserunning and solid starting pitching in Rockford.

GAME 2:
Madonna University erupted for 10 runs over the final two frames, capped by back-to-back two-run home runs from Ashley Rosiewicz and Faith Cramton in the fifth inning, to close out a 13-3 run-rule win over Aquinas (Mich.)
The Crusaders led 3-2 after three innings before seizing control with a five-run fourth and five-run fifth, finishing with 13 runs on 14 hits. Rosiewicz and Cramton delivered the decisive blows in the top of the fifth, each launching a two-run shot to left as Madonna stretched the margin to 13-2. Aquinas pushed across a run in the bottom half, but the eight-run rule ended the contest after five innings.
Madonna set the tone early with a two-run first inning. Rylee Fitzpatrick opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Carson Kulhmann later drew a bases-loaded walk to force in an unearned run for a 2-0 advantage. In the second, Brynn Anteau lined a run-scoring single to make it 3-0 before Aquinas responded with a two-run third, including a run scored by McKenna Hinkle, to trim the lead to 3-2.
The turning point came in the fourth inning, when the Crusaders sent a wave of hitters to the plate and broke the game open. Anteau started the rally with an RBI groundout, and Fitzpatrick followed with a two-run double into the gap. Later in the frame, Jessica Dunkel added another jolt with a two-run double of her own, pushing Madonna's lead to 8-2 and shifting all momentum to the visitors.
Madonna's offense did not slow in the fifth. After a leadoff baserunner, Rosiewicz drilled a two-run homer to extend the advantage to 10-2. Moments later, Cramton followed with another two-run blast as the Crusaders recorded their second long ball of the inning. Skylar Spisz capped the surge with an RBI single to center, giving Madonna a 13-2 cushion. Aquinas' Katie Carlson drove in a run with a groundout in the bottom of the inning, but that was the final damage against a Crusaders staff that allowed three runs on just four hits and no earned runs over five innings.
Rosiewicz sparked the Madonna lineup from the top, reaching base four times and finishing with four runs scored, two hits, two RBIs, two walks and a stolen base. Fitzpatrick went 3-for-4 with two runs, three RBIs and a double, while Anteau added two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Dunkel contributed a 2-for-3 day with a double, two RBIs and a walk, and Cramton scored twice while driving in two with her home run and drawing two walks.
Crusader pitching held Aquinas to four hits and one walk with two strikeouts, and all three runs allowed were unearned, as Madonna overcame three defensive errors by consistently limiting damage. The Saints left four runners on base and were held without an extra-base hit. The performance provides strong early-season momentum as the Crusaders continue their schedule.
