Crusaders Dominant in Shutout Victory Over Saint Mary

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Madonna Softball remained perfect on their opening weekend, cruising to an 11-0 victory over the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) on Sunday morning at the St. Ambrose Dome. Behind a relentless offense that racked up 13 hits and a combined shutout from the pitching staff, the Crusaders improved to 9-0 on the season.

The scoring started early in the top of the first when Brynn Anteau doubled to right-center field, driving in Ashley Rosiewicz for an immediate 1-0 lead.

Madonna broke the game wide open in the second inning with a massive seven-run outburst. The rally was highlighted by a two-RBI single from Rosiewicz and a clutch two-out, two-RBI double by Faith Cramton. By the time the side was retired, the Crusaders had built a commanding 8-0 cushion.

In the third inning, Rosiewicz struck again, recording her third RBI of the game with a single to right field that scored Ella Thomas. The lead grew to 10-0 in the fourth after Riley Fitzpatrick reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single by Olivia Salinas.

The Crusaders added a final insurance run in the fifth. Faith Peschke led off with a walk and eventually came around to score on a double by Anteau, capping off the 11-hit performance.

On the mound, Camille Oyer earned the win, throwing three dominant innings of scoreless ball and allowing only three hits while striking out one. Sara Austin entered in relief to finish the job, tossing two scoreless frames and striking out two to secure the run-rule victory in five innings.

Offensively, the Crusaders were led by Rosiewicz, who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Anteau continued her hot start to the season, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Thomas contributed a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate.

Madonna will look to carry this momentum into the final game of their Iowa road trip against Mount Mercy University for a second time as they aim for a perfect weekend sweep.
