Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Crusaders fall to the Racers

LIMA, Ohio - The Madonna University Women's Basketball team (12-12, 5-11 WHAC) fell to the University of Northwestern Ohio (17-6, 10-5 WHAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders despite shooting well from the free throw line were unable to keep up with the Racers falling 83-64.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders looked to take down one of the top WHAC opponents on the road Wednesday night but were unable to stop the high powered offense of the Racers led by Alysia Lawson who finished with 27 points. The Crusaders would score the first basket of the game after a good jumper from Faith Jungwirth and would be the only lead the Crusaders would have in the entire game. Despite that, Dakota Smith would get going early scoring 7 points in the first quarter, providing a much needed jumpstart for the Crusaders. The Crusaders would struggle in the first half shooting from deep going 0-5 but would shoot a solid 7-12 from the free throw line and head into halftime down 45-29.

In the third quarter despite shooting much better from the field the Crusaders were unable to cut into the Racer lead. Marcela Rodriguez was able to stop the three point drought in the third quarter going 2-3 from deep leading the Crusaders with 8 in the quarter. In the fourth, the Crusaders continued to shoot efficiently but it would be turnovers that would hurt the Crusaders the most with 8 turnovers in the fourth quarter and losing the turnover battle overall finishing 22-7. The Crusaders would fall to the Racers 83-64.
