LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna Crusaders Women's Basketball team (12-14, 5-13) were back at home to take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn Wolverines (0-27, 0-19) this afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both teams coming off losses, the Crusaders would be hoping to capture a must-win and complete their final home game of the regular season on a high note.
Faith Jungwirth would get the home side started in the paint for two and would capture all four of the Crusaders first consecutive points. The visiting Wolverines wouldn't find the basket until around five minutes into the first and the Crusaders would take the first quarter 16-to-11.
Jungwirth would once again be the catalyst for the Crusaders heading into the second quarter,
Dekota Smith giving the Crusaders their largest point margin of the afternoon so far with back-to-back layups. The points would continue to be evenly spread throughout the Crusaders line-up, the home side maintaining a healthy lead of 37-24 over the Wolverines to close out the first half of play.
The Crusaders would continue to shut down the Wolverines in the third with Jungwirth giving them their largest point gap in the game off of the fastbreak to put them up by 18. The Wolverines would attempt to claw their way back towards the end of the third and again in the dying seconds of the fourth and final quarter, but the Crusaders would hold out. Their tenacity in the paint would ultimately get them the win, making 15 second-chance points in the game to award them the win of 69-52.
