Crusaders Make It Eight in a Row with Victory Against Warriors

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Madonna Crusaders Men's Basketball team completed their three-game road trip at Rochester Christian University where they would take on the Warriors in their second meeting of the season.

The Crusaders would complete their three-game stint on the road with a 92-to-81 win over the Warriors, extending their win streak to eight and improving their record to 16-and-9 overall and 12-and-5 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders would get the jump on the home side early, shooting 8-for-9 from the field within the first seven minutes of play. As predicted, with both teams averaging over eighty points per game, it would be a high scoring first half with the Crusaders shooting close to 85 percent to start the game. After securing another double digit point performance in his previous game at UNOH, Matthew MacLellan continued where he left off, shooting 5-for-6 in the first half and closing it out with 11 points. Ahmoni Weston would be the points leader for the Crusaders at the halfway mark with 14. The Warriors would claw their way back as time waned on, cutting the point gap to five with under four minutes of play left in the half. The Crusaders would hold strong, closing out the half with a flurry of offensive pressure to bring the score to 48-34.

Brendan Young would get the Crusaders going again in the second half, draining a pair of threes in the opening minutes to bring the Crusaders point gap back up to 20. The scoring would slow down slightly towards the middle of the half, the Crusaders keeping a pretty consistent lead over the Warriors. In the last few minutes, the Warriors would find a little bit of an offensive spark, bringing the point gap down to seven which would be the lowest point margin from the start of the half. The Crusaders were far from troubled, senior starters Anderson, MacLellan, Young, and Ethan Emerzian closing out the game for the Crusaders in the dying minutes to grant them the win of 92-to-81.

Five Crusaders would reach double-digits in the game: MacLellan with 21, Anderson and Weston with 17, Young with 16, and Emerzian with 14. It would be a consistent showcase of senior talent, the Crusaders looking to continue to rack up the wins as the end of the regular season draws near.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • MacLellan would end his night with 21 points and six rebounds, shooting 9-for-10 from the field.
  • Anderson would capture 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists
  • Brendan Young finished with 16 points and nine rebounds
