LIVONIA, Mich. – The Madonna Crusaders Men's Basketball team (16-9, 12-5) took on the Aquinas College Saints (12-12, 8-9) tonight at home.
The favorite in the contest, the Crusaders would capture a win of 88-74, extending their win streak to nine.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Crusaders would be looking for revenge after falling to the Saints in their previous matchup in early January by a slim margin of three.
Senior
Ethan Emerzian would get the Crusaders started after a steal by fellow upperclassmen
Isaac Anderson. Strong defense would give them the spark they needed, capitalizing in transition. The score would remain close, but a dunk by
Satchel Love followed by a huge defensive block around the halfway mark would act as a crucial turning point, urging the Crusaders on and gaining them some serious momentum.
Capturing a total of 74 points in his last five games, Emerzian would stay dominant from the field, shooting 4-for-5 from the three-point line and capturing 15 points in the first half. He would find the basket on every attempt until around only three minutes remaining in the first half. Senior,
Ahmoni Weston and sophomore
Josh Waun would both be 2-for-3 from the three-point line, Weston ending the first half with 11 total points. Anderson would help close out the half for the Crusaders with a huge dunk, followed by a drive by Weston. Both of their efforts would bring the score to 52-43 in the home side's favor at the close of the first half.
Senior
Brendan Young would grant his side the first points of the second half. Emerzian would continue his crusade to 1000 points, sinking another three. Followed by a dunk by
Matthew MacLellan, the Crusaders would dominate the first few minutes of play, 7-for-8 from the field five minutes in and showing no signs of stopping. They continued to put on an offensive clinic in transition for much of the contest, with 13 steals, 26 points off turnovers, and ten points off the fastbreak.
The Crusaders would end their night with a win of 88-to-74, keeping the win streak alive and improving their record to 17-and-9 overall and 13-and-5 in the conference.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Emerzian would end his night with 18 points, 5-for-7 from the three-point line.
- Weston and Young would both capture 18 points.
- MacLellan would make it his 17th straight game putting up double digits, with 16 points on the night.
