Crusaders' historic season continues with win over Cougars

LANSING, Mich. - Having secured first place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the No. 14 Madonna Crusaders (22-4, 18-2) headed to the state's capital to face the Cougars of Cleary University with hopes to set the record for most wins in a single-season in program history (23). A second-straight 32-point game from junior guard Isaac Anderson helped lead the Crusaders to a 89-76 win over the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders got rolling early and refused to let up. Isaac Anderson scored on the game's first possession, and was followed up by a three-pointer from junior forward Brendan Young on the next. Center Matthew MacLellan would get on the board with an electric dunk as the Crusaders established an early lead. Young would go on to knock down two more three-pointers in the first half alone, while Anderson would score 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting before the intermission. Crusaders led 44-31 at the break.

The second half was more of the same as the Crusaders continued to enforce their will on the Cougars. Four minutes in, the Crusaders would grow to their biggest lead of the night as point guard Devin Dunn took a fast-break to the rim, extending their lead to 17. The Cougars would begin to cut into the lead in the final ten minutes of play, cutting the Crusader lead to single digits. However, a fast-break dunk from Young with four minutes remaining would be the dagger in the heart of the Cougars. Madonna would go on to claim an 89-76 victory over Cleary in their first ever game at Gannon Gym.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Anderson led the team in points with 32 and grabbed six rebounds.
  • Young scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
