Jennings drops career-high on the Cardinals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Madonna Crusaders (9-15, 5-14) traveled down the road to face the Cardinals of Concordia University Ann Arbor (17-2, 13-7). The highlight of the game for the Crusaders would be junior guard Keairra Jennings, who dropped a career-high 28 points to keep the Crusaders in the game until the final buzzer. While the Crusaders kept it close until the final minutes against the third-ranked team in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, the Cardinals would eventually pull away and take an 83-71 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Both teams took the first few minutes of the game to find their rhythm, as it seemed there was a lid on the basket during the first two minutes of play. Two minutes in, Keairra Jennings would score first for the Crusaders with a jump shot from the elbow. Once each team got on the board, the game would stay within one basket for the remainder of the first period of play. The Cardinals led by just three at the end of the first quarter, 16-13.

Jennings would drain a three-pointer to tie the game at 16 on the opening possession of the second quarter. As the Crusaders began to get things rolling on offense, the Cardinals would hang on by a thread at the end of the half, leading 33-32.

Jennings would score the first points of the second half, giving the Crusaders their first lead of the game. The Crusaders would hold onto that lead for the first few minutes of the second half, but the Cardinals would go on a run to end the quarter. The Cardinals pulled ahead by five with ten minutes remaining, leading 58-53.

In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would pull away and seal the win as the Crusaders appeared to run out of steam. The game would end in a 83-71 victory for the Cardinals.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Jennings led the team with 28 points, a career-high for her.
  • Aaliyah McQueen recorded another double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
