Crusaders Fall to the Saints

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University women's basketball team fell 90-68 to Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders found themselves down quickly in the first quarter as Aquinas would open the game on a 9-0 run but the Crusaders were ready to answer after a three from Kayiona Willis that would spark a 12-2 run for the Crusaders coming from four straight threes. The Crusaders and Saints would go back and forth to end the first with the Crusaders down 23-17 after one. To start the second quarter it was a continuation of the back and forth game until the 6:30 mark with another 5-0 run started by Willis to make it a six point game. The Crusaders would cut the lead to as little as four but would go into halftime down 45-37.  

Going into the second half the Crusaders looked to continue to cut into the Saints lead and battled with the Saints keeping the game within an eight point game until the Saints would go on a 10-0 run with 3:15 in the quarter to make it a 18 point lead and by the end of the quarter the Saints had the lead 68-52. Down but not out the Crusaders would battle with the Saints throughout the fourth quarter but were unable to string a run together to cut into the deficit and would fall to the Saints 90-68.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Willis finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
  • Delani Robinson would finish with 12 points and 5 rebounds. She also went 4-7 from three.
  • Aaliyah McQueen finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.
UP NEXT:

The Crusaders will travel to Lansing, Michigan on Wednesday, February 21st as they take on Cleary University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
