Crusaders bested by Grey Wolves

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna Crusaders (9-14, 5-13) returned home to ACCU Arena to take on the Lourdes University Grey Wolves (8-14, 6-11). Despite the Crusaders' best efforts, the Grey Wolves would stay consistent from start to finish, taking a 67-59 win over the Crusaders.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Grey Wolves struck first, but Dekota Smith would fire back with the Crusaders' first basket of the day. While the Grey Wolves held on to an early lead, the Crusaders kept it close as Marcela Rodriguez dropped a three-pointer to keep it at a three-point game five minutes into play. A pair of free throws from LaZae Mosley to end the quarter kept the game within five, as the Crusaders trailed 22-17.

The Grey Wolves picked up the pace in the second quarter, catching fire and taking a 41-28 lead at halftime.

The Crusaders' woes continued in the third quarter as the Grey Wolves held on to their double-digit lead. However, Aaliyah McQueen would score in the quarter's final seconds to make it a single-digit game going into the final period. Crusaders trailed 54-45 after three.

In the final period the Grey Wolves would keep the Crusaders at arm's length. Mosley didn't give up despite the late-game deficit, scoring four points in the final minute to try and pull the Crusaders back. However, it would end up being too little too late as Lourdes would take the 67-59 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • McQueen and Mosley recorded nearly identical statlines with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists each.
  • Smith also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
UP NEXT: 

With four games remaining on the schedule, the Crusaders will travel down the road to face the Concordia University Ann Arbor Cardinals (16-7, 14-3) this Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm on February 14th from Cardinal Field House.
