Crusaders make it five straight after their win over the Blue Devils

LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University Women's Basketball team (10-3, 4-3 WHAC) hosted Lawrence Tech (2-12, 0-7 WHAC) on Wednesday evening. The Crusaders were able to come out on top with a final of 65-62.    

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Crusaders came out looking to continue their win streak, winning their last four, with three coming against conference opponents. For the fourth straight game, the Crusaders have seen four players score in double figures. The game started with a strong start from the Crusaders who despite down 9-4 early, came roaring back with a 10-0 run started by Dekota Smith to take a 14-9 lead after one.  The second quarter was a high scoring affair with each team putting up 17 leaving the Crusaders in front at the half 31-26. In the second half, the Crusaders would strike first off a layup from Ashley Kopacko but then the Blue Devils would go on a 14-0 to give them a 7 point lead. The Crusaders would claw their way back and at the end of three the Blue Devils were up 50-47. 

Opposite of the third quarter this time it was the Blue Devils with the opening bucket before the Crusaders would go on an 8-0 run to retake the lead at 55-53 with 7:20 to go. From there it was back and forth action with each team exchanging baskets until the game was put away by Chenelle King who hit two free throws to give the Crusaders a three point lead and secured the victory with the final score of 65-62. The Crusaders were led tonight by Terre'ya Moore off the bench with 18 points on 7-7 shooting from the field. Moore also finished with 11 rebounds to secure a double-double. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • King finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. King also finished 8-9 from the free throw line 
  • Keairra Jennings finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 5 steals. 
  • Faith Jungwirth finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds while also shooting an efficient 5-7 from the field. 

UP NEXT:

Madonna's next matchup will be back at home on Saturday, December 21st as they take on Kuyper College (Mich.). Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
