LIVONIA, MICH. - Madonna volleyball (7-12, 2-7 WHAC) hosted No.12 Aquinas College (26-1, 9-0 WHAC) on Wednesday evening. The Crusaders would give a tough matchup but fall to the Saints in three sets with final scores of 24-26, 26-28, and 19-25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In set one, the Crusaders came out swinging taking an early 7-3 lead led by Hannah Keenan who would find two kills in their early 6-0 run. The Saints would answer with a run of their own tying the game at 16 midway through the set. From there it was a back and forth battle till the game was tied at 24. From there the Saints took the final two points to win the first set 26-24.Â
In set two, the Crusaders again started the set strong, maintaining a three point lead early at 12-9. Then the Saints would go on a 8-1 run to take a 17-13 lead. The Crusaders then responded going on a 6-2 run of their own to tie the game up at 19. From there, much like set one, it was a back and forth battle with the Crusaders then taking the lead at 26-25. But it was the Saints who would finish, scoring the last three points to take a 28-26 victory in set two.Â
In set three, the Saints seemed to wake up while the Crusaders struggled to find an answer like they had in sets one and two. The Saints jumped to an early 8-2 lead. The Crusaders would bring the game back to within one and even took the lead after a 5-0 run to take a 15-14 lead. From that point it was all Saints as the Crusaders only scored four more points in that set and the Saints took set three 25-19.Â
