DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Madonna University Crusaders volleyball (8-12, 3-7 WHAC) took down the University of Michigan-Dearborn (11-8, 3-7 WHAC) in four sets on Saturday afternoon (25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 25-16).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Crusaders looked to bounce back in conference play after their tough match with No. 12 Aquinas. In the first set, the Crusaders dominated early going on a 7-2 run giving them a quick lead. Later in the set the Crusaders would find themselves up as much as 19-12 before taking the first set with a final of 25-19.
In set number two, the Crusaders again would jump out to an early 7-3 lead but this time the Wolverines had an answer and were able to string together a bunch of 2-3 point runs with their biggest run being a 5-0 run midway through the set, allowing the Wolverines to take a 25-19 victory in set two.
In set number three the Crusaders looked to take their early momentum and hold onto it as they again jumped to an early 7-3 lead. The Wolverines would answer again tying the game at 11 but this time the Crusaders were able to string a 5-0 run together led by Karlee Stoll with two aces. The Wolverines had another answer bringing the game to within one late in the set but another 5-0 run by the Crusaders led by two Evan Hughes kills would secure a 25-19 victory in set three.
In set number four, the Crusaders dominated the second half of the set after they found themselves down 15-13 at the mid set point. From there the Crusaders went on a 9-0 run with two kills from Hannah Keenan and Kira Buza springing them to a 22-15 lead. The Wolverines would take one point to break the 9-0 run but would ultimately result in a 12-1 run for the Crusaders to take the game with a final of 25-16
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Buza led the Crusaders with a hitting percentage with .412 going 10 for 17.
- Keenan also finished with 10 kills and 7 digs.
- Hughes contributed 9 kills with one block.
- Karlee Stoll finished with 34 assists and also had 11 digs
- Kem Donnelly led the team in digs with 14.

Madonna is back in action on Wednesday, October 16th as they return home for a matchup with Lourdes University. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM.
