LIVONIA, MICH. - Madonna volleyball (9-12, 3-7 WHAC) hosted Lourdes University (4-20, 1-10 WHAC) on Wednesday evening. The Crusaders would defeat the Gray Wolves in four sets with final scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-16. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Set one was a back and forth battle between the Crusaders and the Gray Wolves but it was the Gray Wolves who would finish the set on a 6-2 run to take set number one 25-23. 

From set one it was all Crusaders, as they would respond by winning the next three sets starting with set number two. The Crusaders would come out aggressive taking a 14-6 lead early on led by the big hitters of Hannah Keenan and Kira Buza. The Gray Wolves would try to make a push but it was too much to overcome as the Crusaders would take set two 25-16.  

Set three consisted of a back and forth game of runs as each team would go on a 3-4 point run with the other responding the same way. Early on the Crusaders would take a 8-4 lead but then the Gray Wolves would take a 10-9 lead. Eventually the game was tied at 17 before the Crusaders went on a 6-1 run helping put away the Gray Wolves in set three as the Crusaders won 25-22.

Set four was much like set number two where the Crusaders would go on 2-3 point runs with the Gray Wolves taking a point in between. The Crusaders were up late 19-16 which is where they put their foot on the pedal going on a 6-0 run to end the game led by Buza who had two aces and a kill during that run to put away the Gray Wolves 25-16 and win 3 sets to 1.

Madonna will be back in action Friday, October 18th in back to back home games to take on the YellowJackets of Defiance. The match is set to start at 7:00 PM.
