Crusaders Take Care of Cougars with Ease

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Crusaders' #20 Men's Soccer Team faced the Cougars from Cleary University (Mich.) on a brisk Wednesday afternoon. The Crusaders are coming off a back-and-forth battle with Indiana Tech that ended in a tie this past Saturday. The Crusaders would end up taking care of the Cougars with ease and picking up their 11th win of the season and continue to remain undefeated in WHAC play.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Crusaders welcomed the Cougars for a chilly afternoon game in the WHAC Conference. The first half of play started out with the Cougars defending mostly with the Crusaders working mostly in the offensive zone. The Crusaders generated 12 shots in the first half, looking to strike early but nothing came about. Goaltender Austin Freemire would be the saving grace in the first half for the Cougars as he kept the Cougars and Crusaders tied up at zero to end the first half.
 
After regrouping and recovering from the first half the Crusaders would only need ten minutes into the second half to notch their first goal of the game. At the 54:33 minute mark, captain, Andreas Gomez, would send a beautiful kick from the corner to junior defender, Gabriel Bressanelli, who sends a header into the back of the goal. Next, at the 80th minute, Daniel Watkins capitalized on a corner kick opportunity and sent the kick right to senior defender, Felipe Acherboim who send another header into the back of the goal giving the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. Finally, senior Ryota Nakajima puts the nail in the coffin by burying home the rebound off of Yan Brun's shot to give the Crusaders their third and final goal of the game.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • The Crusaders generated 33 shots with 18 being on goal.
  • Crusaders offense capitalized on two of 19 corner kicks
  • Andreas Gomez notches his 12th assist (team-leading) in pursuit of the record.
 
UP NEXT:
The #20 Men's Soccer Team will next play on Saturday October 19, 2024, at 12:00 PM when they travel to Adrian, Mich. to take on Sienna Heights University as they look to remain undefeated in the WHAC Conference.
