Crusaders race to triple-digits in dominant road victory

LIMA, Ohio - Coming off their last-second victory over the Saints, the #RV Madonna Crusaders (16-4, 12-2) continued their road trip as they headed south of the state border to face the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers (5-16, 4-11) in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference showdown. The Crusaders would head into The Garage firing on all cylinders in their most explosive performance of the season so far. Led by Isaac Anderson and Brendan Young, each with over twenty points, the nationally-ranked Crusaders would secure a thirty-point victory over the Racers, winning 108-75.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game would get off to a surprisingly tight start. The Racers scored first with a layup on the opening possession, but Matthew MacLellan would get the Crusaders on the board with a layup of his own. Brendan Young followed up with a signature deep-three to take the lead, but the Racers would immediately match it. A three-point play from Isaac Anderson would put the Crusaders back up, and a three-pointer from Ryan Nunn to follow would give the Crusaders their biggest lead of the night so far.

The Racers would stay on their heels, trading shots back-and-forth as the Crusaders held onto the lead by a thread after five minutes of play. However, the Crusaders would finally get rolling as graduate student Devin Dunn got them started with a bucket from behind the arc to put them up 22-15, the largest lead of the night so far. Young immediately extended it with a layup, forcing the Racers to call a timeout with twelve minutes to play in the first half.

Following the timeout, the Racers would begin to hack away at the Crusader lead. Just as it seemed they were gaining some momentum, Nunn knocked down his third three-pointer of the half to give the Crusaders their first double-digit lead of the game with just over five minutes left in the half. From there, there was no going back. MacLellan dropped a powerful dunk on the Racers just a minute of play later. The Crusaders would hold onto their double-digit lead going into halftime up 54-43.

Things got off to a hot-start after the break as Anderson laid down an electric fast-break dunk for the first points of the period. From there, the Crusaders would swiftly go on a 12-2 run to open the half and take their first lead of over twenty-points on the night. Just four minutes into the half, the score was now 66-45.

Attempting to rally a comeback, the Racers would cut into the lead with a string of three-pointers. However, the Crusaders would extend their lead back to twenty with just over ten minutes remaining in play, and would not look back from there. With just over six minutes left in the contest, Nunn would drain his fourth three-pointer of the night to put the Crusaders up by thirty points, 91-61.

From there, the Crusaders would continue to impose their will for the final six minutes of the game, proving why they are nationally-ranked, running up over one-hundred points by the final buzzer. The Crusaders would secure a convincing 108-75 victory over the Racers, their highest point total and largest margin of winning so far this season.
