LIVONIA, Mich. –  The Madonna University women's volleyball team saw their three-game loosing streak against the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone University (Mich.) come to an end on Saturday during Homecoming Weekend. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Even though the Golden Eagles have a .500 record on the season, in the first set, they came out like the defending WHAC Champions. It was a back and forth set as the score was 14-13 in favor of Cornerstone, until the Crusaders let up a big 11-3 run to drop set one 25-16.

In the second set, Madonna was up 8-6, but Cornerstone went on a 6-0 run to claim a 12-8 lead. Fast forward in the set, and the Crusaders were down 21-14, Head Coach Scott Barbe called a timeout and coming out of it went on an incredible 12-3 run to claim set two 26-24. 

The Crusader's momentum from set number second carried over into the third. Madonna jumped out to a commanding 12-4 lead and never looked back as they took the third, 25-20. The fourth and final set was the same, the Crusaders dominated winning the set 25-17 and winning the match 3-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• The all-time series between the two programs is now 49-3 in favor of Madonna
• This was the first victory over the Golden Eagles since the 2021 WHAC Tournament Championship Game
• Tauri Hintz led the Crusaders with 10 kills, nine digs and four aces
• Kacie Stoneburner had 23 assists and 14 digs
• Defensively, Khloee Stoll lead the team in digs with 22 and Jaeda Porter lead the team with seven blocks

UP NEXT

The Crusaders will return to action Wednesday, October 4, at 7:00 p.m. when they hit the road to take on the University of Northwest Ohio.
