LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna University volleyball team fought hard Friday night, but ultimately fell in five sets against WHAC rival Aquinas College. Madonna is now 9-7 overall and 5-3 in the WHAC, while Aquinas moves to 18-4 and 7-1 in WHAC play. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Madonna took a 21-18 lead in the opening set, but the visitors fought back with a 6-1 run to go up 24-22. The Crusaders didn't back down however, and scored the next four points to claim the opening set victory. The Saints rallied however in set two, jumping out to a 18-11 advantage before ultimately winning set two 25-15. 

Set three saw the Crusaders respond with a 25-16 victory. With their backs against the wall, Aquinas dominated the fourth set with a 25-12 victory to force the deciding fifth set. The Saints momentum was too much to overcome for the Crusaders, as Aquinas held off Madonna 15-10 in set five. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Madonna was led by Kira Buza with nine kills.
• Karlee Stoll recorded five service aces while Kacie Stoneburner had 19 assists. 
• Abbi Perkins led the Saints with 19 kills while Lydia Harper posted 41 assists.
