ANN ARBOR, Mich. –  The Madonna University women's volleyball team saw their three-game winning streak end on Wednesday night at the hands of the Cardinals of Concordia University (Mich.). 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Coming into tonight's match, the Crusaders lead the all-time series 49-2 against the Cardinals dating back to 1990. However, the history books wrote a different story tonight. In the first set, it was a back-and-forth game but Concordia rattled off a 7-1 run to take a 14-8 lead. That proved to be the deciding factor as the Cardinals took the first set from the Crusaders 25-20. The second set was more of the same, the Crusaders dug themselves a hole as they found themselves down 17-4 and the Cardinals took the second 25-15

In the third set, the Crusaders cleaned up their attacking errors with only having five this set instead of the 12 they had in the second. Madonna was in it until the end but Concordia was able to pull off the 3-0 sweep. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• The all-time series between the two programs is now 49-3 in favor of Madonna
• Tauri Hints led the Crusaders in kills with nine and also had seven digs
• Kira Buza finished with eight kills, three blocks,  three digs, and two aces
• Khloee Stoll led Madonna with 17 digs
• Crusaders are now in third place in the conference at 5-2, only trailing Aquinas (6-1) and No. 21 Indiana Tech (8-0)

The Crusaders will return to action Friday, September 30, at 7:00 p.m. when they host the Saints of Aquinas College (Mich.)
