MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - The Madonna University men's soccer team went on the road and earned a 1-0 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday. The win moves Madonna's record to 4-2-1 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a scoreless first half, it seemed like Madonna was on its way to another draw against a Crossroads League opponent. The host Cougars came out aggressive in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Crusaders 8-3. 

Madonna finally broke through in the 58th minute, as Daniel Watkins scored his third goal of the season. Assisting on the play was Johonnier Torres Gonzalez. It proved to be the difference, as MVNU was unable to find the equalizer. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 

• Watkins led the Crusaders with four shots.
• Afonso Henrique made a career-high eight saves.
• Despite not scoring, the Cougars still outshot the Crusaders 16-13.
• Madonna's record is 8-0 all-time against MVNU. 

UP NEXT:

WHAC play begins for the Crusaders next Saturday on the road at Michigan-Dearborn. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
